About the Blog

I married the man of my dreams, my prince charming, on June 16, 2012.
We have a crazy adventure ahead of us – beginning with our honeymoon in Hawaii to our new life together in Germany.
This blog is a way for me to capture our first year together as husband and wife and to share a glimpse of my/our everyday life with our family and friends (and possibly a few strangers).

  1. Guten Tag!

I have been reading your blog, and enjoy it very much! I’m a military spouse who is new to Germany and it is nice to read about someone who has “been there – done that” too.

Before PCSing here we lived in Okinawa, Japan. One of my most valuable tools for anticipating, moving to, and loving life overseas, was a blog called OkinawaHai (okinawahai.com). This blog was started by a military spouse and continues to be run by Americans who have lived, or are living in, Okinawa, most of them associated with the military. OkinawaHai has become THE place to go for information on Okinawa: from what to bring, where to eat out and how to thrive in Okinawa. While I was there, I started writing for them and eventually got involved in their administrative team.

In August OkinawaHai had 13 million hits! When you consider that there are around 50,000 US military members stationed in Okinawa, we reach a large amount of them! This summer we decided that we would like to bring the OkinawaHai platform to other parts of the world. We are in the process of starting sites in Germany and Korea because of the large population of US military personnel and their families in both places. Our Germany Ja site went public on 20 Sep. It’s just getting started, buy you can see we have big plans.

I arrived in Germany on August 28 and along with looking for a house, figuring out VAT forms, and replacing my yen with euros, I am looking for writers that can help with GermanyJa! We think you could be one of those people!

If you are interested, we would love to have you help by either letting us repost a few of your current posts to our site or have you write something new for us. In return, we would make sure that your blog is linked on that post as well as our blog roll if you are interested.

We are hoping to gain advertisers over the next six months and then be able to compensate our writers, but at this point, it’s a bit of a labor of love — helping fellow helping fellow military families and service members survive and thrive in Germany.

If this is something you are interested in, please let me know. My email is submissions@germanyja.com. You can also check out germanyja.com or okinawahai.com, our sister site for Okinawan families.
